Selection Process for PM Internship Scheme 2026

This scheme is an important opportunity for the youth, which will help them gain experience and develop skills in the professional field. It is the intention of the government that through this scheme more and more youth will benefit and advance in their careers.

Shortlisting and Selection

A pool of candidates will be shortlisted for each internship opportunity through the Portal. The shortlisting process will be based on candidates’ preferences and the requirements specified by the companies.

The process will also consider criteria to ensure broad representation across applicants, promoting diversity and social inclusion in the internship program. To achieve this, the Portal will use tools to ensure representation from various sections of society, including:

  • Scheduled Castes (SC)
  • Scheduled Tribes (ST)
  • Other Backward Classes (OBC)
  • Persons with Disabilities (PwD)

Based on the number of internship opportunities and applications received, candidates will be shortlisted and forwarded to the companies for final selection.

Companies will select candidates and make internship offers based on their own selection criteria and processes. Once an offer is made, candidates can accept it through the Portal.

Clarification on Employment Status

  • It is clarified that an internship offer does not create any contractual or legal employer-employee relationship between the Ministry, the company, and the selected intern.
  • Further, such an internship does not guarantee or imply future employment with the concerned company or the Ministry, either during or after the internship period.
